Just about any medication or supplement that you can buy online will have some type of side effects. In the case of Acai berry supplements, you really don’t have too much to worry about but as the old adage goes, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of pudding, or something like that.
The Acai berry is considered to be a superfood. It is quite rich in antioxidants and contains a very healthy dose of fiber. These two attributes alone have been the cornerstones of an aggressive advertising campaign touting the berry as somewhat of a ‘cure all’. The Acai berry supplements have been said to help keep cancer at bay, lower blood pressure, help to prevent diabetes, promote good cholesterol while controlling bad cholesterol and even helping people to lose weight!
Whether you believe any or all of these claims is up to you. A good argument could be made for or against any of these claims but the bottom line is that Acai berries and supplements that are derived from this fruit can definitely be good for you. It’s just a good food and a great source of fiber and antioxidants. Getting plenty of fiber and antioxidants has been proven to promote good health.
The Down Side of Acai
Side effects are always the down side of any medication or supplement. Just like paying the Piper is the down side of having a good time. One of the well known side effects of having a good time on a Friday night is the hangover on Saturday morning. The only way to avoid the side effects is to avoid the pleasure that you receive. It’s kind of the same with Acai berry supplements. However, the side effects are quite mild, even when they are compared to having a Saturday morning hangover.
One of the only known side effects, or down sides, of the Acai berry is that it does give you a fair dose of Potassium. If you take certain medications that also contain potassium, or if you regularly consume 20 or more bananas a day, you might want to concern yourself with the details. Otherwise, this is a fairly mild consideration, especially when you consider all of the healthful benefits that you can get from Acai.
However, not all Acai berry supplements are created equal. You will need to be carefully about which supplements you choose to buy. Some contain fillers and extra ingredients that may have their own set of unwanted side effects. Be sure to read the labels! Try to only buy pure Acai berry products and try to avoid anything that also contains other ingredients. This is most often the case when the seller is trying to push Acai as a weight loss supplement. They might throw in some caffeine, Hoodia, Green Tea or other ingredients that have been known to help people lose weight.
Stick to the trusted sellers and opt for the pure forms of Acai berry and you should be alright. There is really no need to worry about the side effects of this supplement. Do you worry about the side effects of blueberries or carrots? It is pretty much the same with Acai. Unlike taking prescription medications, Acai supplements is more like eating a food that is actually good for you.
