Acai Berry Ingredients
|
The Acai berry is considered a ‘Super Food’ for good reasons. These berries have also been called “The Perfect Fruit”. So why is Acai so special?
The main ingredients or properties of the Acai berry that allow it to reach superstar status are the antioxidants, anthocyanins, omega fatty acids and fiber. Anthocyanins are flavonoid pigments that are synthesized by plants and fruits and they are well known for their antioxidant properties. Purple flowers and grapes are a couple examples of plants that make use of anthocyanins.
Why is this important in relation to the mystical health benefits of the Acai berry? Fruits such as the Acai berry have developed higher levels of anthocyanins specifically so that they can use them as an antioxidant. These berries are out in the blazing sun for hours. This tends to create free radicals. In turn, the berries need some type of defense so that they can rid themselves of these free radicals. So they evolved to create anthocyanins which help to eliminate the free radicals.
This is where the true magic comes into play. You see, the berries retain this ability to eradicate free radicals, even after they have been consumed by humans. The anthocyanins remain intact. So when you take Acai berry supplements, you gain the advantage that is provided by the anthocyanins of getting rid of the free radicals that are in your body. These are the same anthocyanins that are found in red wine. Therefore, Acai berries may be able to help prevent heart disease. Acai berries have much higher concentrations of anthocyanins than red wine.
Other healthy ingredients of the Acai berry include a good dose of Omega fatty acids. These are Omega 3, 6 and 9. In other words, the healthy unsaturated fats that help to keep us up and running. They are especially important for the health of our heart and circulatory system.
As mentioned earlier, Acai berries also contain a lot of fiber. This is one of the reasons why Acai berry supplements are marketed as weight loss aids. Other ingredients in the berry are purported to promote increased energy levels, further advancing the theory that Acai supplements can help people to lose weight.
Otehr ingredients include a wide variety of vitamins such as healthy doses of vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, C and E. The fruit also contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc. It is the combination of these vitamins with the fiber and antioxidant properties that has prompted some experts to label the Acai berry as a super food.

Acai berry supplements are basically a type of food. It would be kind of like asking if you could eat blueberries while taking certain medications. Acai does not have any known side effects and is not contraindicated against any type of medications. That being said, it is always a good idea to check with your doctor before you buy or take any type of medications or supplements. There is always the possibility that you could have an allergy that could prevent you from taking Acai berry supplements. However, this is very rare.

It?s a myth that animal protein is needed to build muscle. What you require is amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. Fortuitously these occur in plant based nutrients as well. Though they?re not as densely compressed as in animal products, they?re easier on your physical structure. Does meat get you fat? No. I have to admit, since I switched my diet to a mainly altogether, vegan diet I?ve lost muscle, but this is simply because I decided I wanted to begin running marathons instead of hitting the gym

Great article, thank you. I am very interested in finding a diet that lowers my sugar intake. I currently have a sweet-tooth, and am finding it difficult to find meal plans, what to eat for snacks, etc. While diabetes is not something that runs in my family, I am still concerned and would like to be smart and take a proactive approach to my health.
